INTRODUCTION

You have been asked to return to the world of the brother's Grimm to advise them that the future of fairytales is in doubt. You must co author the transformation of one fairytale , appropriate for the 21 st century

 

 

TASK

In groups of three or four you will comprise a " spin team" responsible for improving the popularity of fairytales to young children. Your team will consists of writers, illustrators and marketing people, who will collectively transform one fairytale for a modern audience

Step 1

Students will have 4 days( periods) in the past ( computer lab) to familiarize themselves with the varied tales. Click on the ABOVE  fairies and they will lead you into the world of the brothers Grimm

Step2

Complete the fairytale template for at least 3 of the fairytales.

 

Step 3

Read the Paper Bag Princess. This Princess is an unusual one.

Complete the mix and match activity sheet

 

Step 4

Watch the movie Shrek and complete the attached question sheet

Step 5

Now that you have an understanding of how to adapt a text, choose 1 of the above fairytales for your transformation. Some of the ways you may adapt your text is to change or mix characters, setting, events, descriptions or endings

Step 6

Create your new fairytale with a new audience and purpose in mind. It must be word processed and illustrated with either JPG , GIF images or clip art.

Step 7

The marketing team must then design a book poster which will attract the modern audience using visual representations and persuasive language.

Step 8

You must sell your new fairytale to Year 8 in a 5 minute team presentation, where you tell the story and explain the poster in order to rekindle a love of fairytales
